Honor 90 5G First Impressions: A New Beginning

The Honor 90 5G, a new smartphone from HonorTech or HTech, has been released in India, bringing the long-dormant brand back to life. The price range for this smartphone is within Rs 40,000. The competition in this market has also increased due to several recent models from OnePlus, Realme, and Motorola. Here are my initial thoughts on the Honor 90 5G we received in emerald green.

The Honor 90 5G tries to include all the vogue specs rather than concentrating on one particular area. The advantages of this smartphone include:

  • A 6.7-inch AMOLED curved-edge floating display
  • A premium design
  • A 200-megapixel primary back camera
  • A 50-megapixel front camera

The phone’s frame is polycarbonate, and the back is glass. Two distinct camera bumps that resemble rings have been mounted with all the back sensors. The bulge is surrounded by glossy trim. The panel’s remaining portion is covered in dot designs that provide good grip and shine in the light. The phone is greatly shielded from fingerprints by these dotting patterns.

The Honor 90 5G’s frame is shiny. On the right side of the phone are the power and volume rockers. A SIM slot, a USB Type-C port, and a single speaker grill are all located at the bottom. The top microphone port is located, whereas the bottom microphone port is. The Honor 90 5G boasts a display with a curved edge and minimal bezels around the screen. A little thicker than the other bezels is the bottom one.

The selfie camera is housed in a notch in the top center of the display. The phone weighs 183g and has a thin 7.8mm thickness. Despite a sea of other smartphones, the Honor 90 5G would be easy to spot because of its beautiful design.

The Honor 90 5G display refreshes at a rate of 120Hz. The resolution of this AMOLED display is 2664×1200 pixels. The phone’s maximum HDR brightness is 1,600 nits. It has HDR10+ certification and Netflix HDR certification. According to HonorTech, this smartphone has 3,840Hz PWM display dimming technology. The content on the display seems clear and vibrant, which is rather impressive. Both indoors and outside, the colors seem vibrant.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 CPU powers the Honor 90 5G. The Motorola Razr 40 is one of the few smartphones with this CPU on the Indian market. This SoC was created using a 4nm technology, regarded as excellent. This processor supports 14 5G bands. I found this CPU to be powerful despite only using it briefly.

256GB of storage and 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM were included with my review device. The phone handled social media browsing, multimedia streaming, and quick games effectively in this configuration. Stay tuned for the full review as we put this smartphone to the test. HonorTech says the Honor 90 5G has an AI-based thermal management system and graphite sheet to minimize overheating.

The 200-megapixel main back camera of the Honor 90 5G. In addition, there is a third depth camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a macro camera. The primary back camera uses a 1/1.4-inch sensor. The ultra-wide camera’s field of vision (FOV) is 112 degrees. Various modes, including HDR, portrait, multi-video, solo cut, and close-up, are available in the camera app. The 50-megapixel front camera can also record videos at 4K 30 frames per second, as can the primary back camera.

With the primary back camera, digital zoom is enabled up to ten times. The original photos I took looked good. The selfie camera is more efficient, but we will go more in-depth about camera performance in the review.

Despite having a 5,000mAh battery, the Honor 90 5G does not include a charger in the box. Only one USB Type-A to Type-C cable is provided. During initial use, the phone’s battery lasted for around a day.

The Magic OS 7.1-based Android 13 platform powers the Honor 90 5G smartphone. The phone came with a few preloaded apps that may be deleted. Speaking of additional features, it has RAM Turbo, which essentially allows the phone’s RAM to be increased to 5GB. NFC, an in-display fingerprint sensor, and UFS 3.1 storage are other characteristics of this phone. The company promises software upgrades for two years and security updates for three years.

Stay tuned for the full review as we put the Honor 90 5G smartphone through all the required tests in the upcoming days.
